Hurricane landfalls in the United States

Number of recorded continental hurricane impacts/landfalls in the United States. Hurricanes are categorised by the Saffir–Simpson hurricane wind scale (SSHWS) whichclassifies by five categories (1 being the lowest; 5 the highest) based on the intensity of sustained winds. Hurricanes reaching Category 3 and higher are consideredmajor hurricanes because of their potential for significant loss of life and damage.
