Phosphorous emissions per tonne of farmed seafood

Based on a meta-analysis that includes data from 1690 fish farms. Emissions are given in kilograms of phosphorus per tonne of edible weight. Chicken – thelowest-carbon meat – is shown for comparison.

Note: Negative emissions can occur when organisms filter excess phosphorous from the water, storing it in their tissue. This is then removed from the water system when they are harvested.
