Number of reported yaws cases

Yaws is a rare skin disease endemic to tropical countries caused by a species of bacteria called Treponema pertenue. It is highly infectious and spreads throughphysical contact. Yaws can be cured with a single oral dose of an inexpensive antibiotic called azithromycin.

Note: Reported case numbers are limited by surveillance capacity. Yaws is also currently endemic in Liberia, East Timor and the Philippines but due to lack of surveillance there are no reported cases.
