Global warming: Contributions to the change in global mean surface temperature

This is shown as a country or region's share of the global mean surface temperature change as a result of its cumulative emissions of three gases – carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.

Source: Jones et al. (2023). National contributions to climate change due to historical emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.

Note: Cooling effects of sulphur dioxide and aerosols are not included – this means the net impact for some countries can be negative. Methane and nitrous oxide are included using the GWP* approach.
